- Prep Your Car:
- Wash the car with scent-free dish soap (like Dawn or Simple Green) 24 hours before spraying.
- If your car is 2+ years old, clay bar the paint for a smooth surface.
- Ensure the car is clean, free of dirt, oils, and wax, and let it dry for at least 24 hours.
- Prep Materials:
- Use blue painter’s tape, green solvent-resistant paper, and pre-taped masking film.
- Mask off areas not being painted (windows, headlights, wheels, engine bay, radiator).
- Optionally, mask door jambs if not spraying them.
- Overspray on jambs or windows can be wiped off with a towel and mineral spirits.
- Spraying Process:
- Use a Stage 3 Turbine or compressor with a 1.7mm tip size.
- Do NOT use a sprayer with a motor inside the gun.
- Set the gun to the lowest setting, turn up 8-10 clicks for the first coat.
- Start with a light tack coat, allow 8-10 minutes to dry before the next coat.
- Increase gun setting by two clicks before each new coat (up to 25-30 clicks).
- Follow the guide for each gallon:
- Gallon One: Light tack coats
- Gallon Two: Medium coats
- Gallon Three: Medium coats
- Gallon Four: Wet coats
- Tips:
- Prep is crucial, take your time.
- Allow paint to flash/dry between coats (10-15 minutes).
- Maintain room temperature for Raail AirWrap, no need to heat it.
- Compressor setting: 20-25 PSI, 1.7 tip size.
Remember, patience and precision during prep and spraying are key to achieving the best results.
